looking at an off limits skatepark...how fun
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:35:06 PM »

here's my problem, have u ever almost hit a kid whos riding a bike in the road, one ride out in front of you?  face it, theres alot of bmxers in monroe. bmxer? a person who rides a bike and does tricks on it. do you own a business or work for one here in monroe? have you ever yelled at kids for riding their bikes and doing tricks on your property, ive been kicked out of and yelled at by over 100 businesses. some have called the police. i think we need a place to go. theres the trouble, we do but its against the law to go there. these places are the skateparks, dixie skatepark and munson skatepark. neither allow bikes. i think thats terrible, they build something for us finally then dont let half the kids in. your tax money pays for the parks yet they are not used to there fullest. i dont even think monroe knows why. every cop ive talked to has told me a diffrent reason. most dont even know why themselves.

just to ensure that this small law is not broken police park in the parking lot across the street and watch to make sure there are no bmxers. personally i think police have better things to do then bust kids for having fun.

this has been brought to the city council not to long ago but the city did not take us seriously.

now
does anyone agree out there?

heres a great video of what BMX is and why it is not destructive

i owe thanks to  bmx_is_not_a_crime for posting the link on page 9
thought this palce would b good for the link

Hey kid,

Sounds like you might have a good point. I will give you a suggestion. Take it to city council. If they get rude with you or don't follow up and give you a legitimate answer, then bring it back to this forum. I guarantee you if you get enough of these forum talkers riled up, they will have another community uprising like they did in the J.P. and fireworks topic.

Try it and get back with the forum. What do you think?

angrybmxer6,
I have witnessed many kids, teens being yelled at for harmless acts. I fully support your idea. Build a bike park or let them in the ones that are already built. You too are a citizen and you have a right to speak at a council meeting but make sure you have some assets to back you up.

Mr. Bmxer,
Are you saying that city council disrespected a veteran?

I'd be happy with laws that permit biking around Monroe along sidewalks.

only place we have a problem with the sidewalks is downtown, id love to ride on those and stay outta tht traffic but we get 85 dollars tickets, and they base that whole law on a coincidence when a skater hit a door that was opening. and its a completely prejudice law because older mountain bike people ride all the time downtown, ive witnessed police driving right past those people

ive been told thats the reason but by one cop, and its posted on the sign, AT YOUR OWN RISK besides people there are always nice. a kid broke his arm and an ambulance was there in 5 minuetes because it only took 2 for a kid to call 911

It doesn't matter about the "AT YOUR OWN RISK" signs. They can still be sued.

Mr. Bmxer,
When you take it to council, you have to be prepared like Jake 25 said. Also do these two things:
#1 Get the names of the council members who disrespected the veterans and post them on this forum.
#2 Ask the council why aren't the police officers keeping an eye on the drug dealers and criminals instead of innocent kids.

Can you accomplish the mission?
