Here we go again.

Another shutdown of state looming
Clock's ticking as legislators continue to wrangle over $440M in program cuts before Oct. 31.

Oh Geez!   *:)

Does anyone else think this is at least partly being done for the drama?  Can't it be a "good negotiation" to come to terms BEFORE the strike?  Michigan's four hour shutdown, GM's 2 day strike, Chrysler's 7 hour strike - - is this a trend or something?  You're not negotiating hard enough unless you take it to strike/shutdown?

I still haven't heard anything from our wonderful legislators about taking a pay cut for themselves.  I am just waiting for a new budget with pay INCREASES for them since they work such long hours, don't get any vacation time, etc.  I certainly wish I could work as little as they do, get the big paychecks, expenses accounts, and then after only working six years, get a big fat check every month and medical insuranace for life.  I knew I should have gone into politics instead of trying to make an honest living.

I bet if they were penalized with a LOSS OF PAYCHECK for the time they are over the due date, they would work harder and earlier in the year to get this done!

A pay cut for them? Heaven Forbid. They want the state employees to give up their 3% raises and pay more of their health care, while they give themselves a 14% raise and no co-pays. They make villains out of  state employees, but they are the actual villains. They don't do much, and are not too good at what they do.

The link quotes....

"The largest reduction, some would argue, isn't a cut at all.
A planned 2.5 percent increase in aid to public schools will be rolled back to 1 percent, saving $173 million. The same goes for community colleges and universities, saving another $26 million."

How in the HELL can cutting a proposed increase, which was never a expense,
be considered a cut in spending?  ??? ??? ???
Sounds like "SMOKE and MIRRORS" to me! >:( >:( >:(
