Thursday, 28 August, 2008 - Life Line Screening

Life Line Screening will be at St. George Cultural Center Aug. 28 to screen people for their risk of stroke and osteoporosis.
A new heart rhythm screening checks for irregular heartbeat, which is a major risk factor for stroke.
The ultrasound screening is quick and painless. It looks for blocked arteries, aortic aneurysm and hardening of the arteries in the leg. Bone density screenings also will be available to assess the risk of osteoporosis.
The complete wellness package with heart rhythm is $$139. All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete.

Thursday, 28 August, 2008 - Monroe Center's next Health Odyssey

The Monroe Center will hold its next Health Odyssey at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 at the center, 15275 S. Dixie Hwy.

A complimentary lunch sponsored by Pfizer, Inc., and Mercy Memorial Hospital will be served and will feature mandarin chicken salad on a lettuce bun, fresh wheat bread, and lemon chiffon pie.

Patty Pollock, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and respiratory manager for Mercy Memorial Hospital System, will present information and demonstrate spirometry screenings. These are lung function tests that measure airflow and lung volume. The test can identify early onset of COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
