Helping Horns: used band instrument donation drive

Boy Scout Derek Lyp of Lambertville is holding a used band donation drive called 'Helping Horns.'

The public is invited to drop off gently used band instruments from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday May 23 at the Sheroian Associates parking lot, 3558 Sterns Rd., Lambertville, in the Kroger plaza.

Pickups will be available on request for those unable to make that appointment. For information, call (734) 347-5051.

Donations are tax-deductible with forms available at the event.

After collection, the instruments will be cleaned and donated to music programs in Bedford and other area schools, with the intention to assist students who do not have the means to purchase or rent their own instruments.

This program is part of Derek's Eagle Scout project. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 777 in Temperance.

'I have a love for music that I would like to share,' Derek said in his announcement. 'Through my Eagle Scout project, I would like to spread the opportunity for other local kids to develop their talent and enjoy music the way I do.'
