Monroe County will celebrate Earth Day 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 at Loranger Square. Washington Street will be closed to traffic between First and Second Sts.
The rain location is at First Presbyterian Church.
The event, 'Monroe - Celebrate, Discover, Learn,' is an opportunity for Monroe County families to learn about environmental issues and actions they can take to restore and protect the earth.
Activities are free and include refreshments, prize drawings, educational exhibits and crafts for children. There will also be tree plantings and installation of new bicycle racks in the downtown area.
The Earth Day celebration is sponsored by the Monroe County Solid Waste Program and the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary with support from the County of Monroe, the City of Monroe, DTE Energy, Neon Goldfish Marketing Solutions, and Wal-mart.
