Just curious as to why it is acceptable for women to wear the smallest of swim suits even if their bodies say NO they should not, while the men's in style fashion calls for swim trunks with material below the knees?

Since when has it become strangely inappropriate for men to expose their leg above their knees?
Let me be clear here, we are not talking men's speedos, we are just talking about swim suits the length of walking shorts.

Cause men are ugly:>) Kidding!  I think neither should wear revealing suits but that's just my opinion...go to Germany or Italy....more than an eyeful.

Who said it's acceptable???
All you have to do is go to a beach or pool and you will find the answer. I am not against a women's choice in swim wear and many are attractive. But, I have to ask what is with the men's "style" these days with below the knee suits? I remind you I am not for men's speedo's.

That's just the style for men at the moment. And just because women wear skimpy suits doesn't make it acceptable

I assume your talking about the women. If a women has a nice body to go with the suit, what is wrong with a small suit?
Maybe your just one of those prudish Americans. Now South Americans have no problem with small suits even the men wear them and shock of all shocks women go topless and it's is acceptable. Ohhh but shiver the thought of an American going topless.
There was a man that had a sex change with before and after shots of the chest area. The before, man shot, was in full view yet the womens shot was bleared, why?

The woman's chest was blurred  because it's the law.  A woman's breasts must be covered.  I know some countries are ok with it but....from experience...most are not.  Israel, UAE, most if not all of Asia...they have about the same laws as we do about exposure and some are even more strict...Prudish or appropriate...depends on the person's individual view.

It's interesting that the men's swim suit style in the 50's were what some would call speedos today. Today if a mans swim suit is not below the knees it could be considered vulgar as some have indicated. Just another example look at the old men's basketball uniforms which at the time was the standard and acceptable. From that time on a women's suits got smaller and smaller while men's sports bottoms got longer and longer.
All I'm asking is who makes these decisions?
As far as I am concerned a swim suit has 2 main purposes getting a tan and swimming. Swimming with long pants is rather dumb don't you think.

Welll...it depends on your background.  Some religions have different criteria for swimsuits and who are we to say it's extreme.  All I know is, in the interest of everyone around me keeping their vision...it's better if some parts never see the light of day!

It is interesting that it is acceptable to show African natives topless as displayed on nature shows and National Geographic but showing a white women's breast is somehow sacrilegious. What is it about a woman's breast that makes it vulgar?
There are many men that are larger than flat chested women yet the woman must cover up while the man goes bouncing around.

Don,
I believe history, society and Christian beliefs have formed the opinion and our current laws regarding this.  I guess you can buy National Geographic or "other" publications if you would like view that more frequently.

No I am not interested in watching NG it was just an example on how certain images are accepted in the so called christian America. But what you are implying is that the 50's America was less christian than the current America some how I doubt it. There is a good reason that out constitution seperates church from state and I don't believe the swim suite style has anything to do with religion.

But long swim pants for men, come on you have got to see something dumb about that concept.

I see a lot of things wrong with fashion today.  Swimsuits are just one item.   How about the pants that are so big that they have to be held up just to walk.  What about the boxers showing because men and boys forgot that the waist measurement means they should fit you waist, not you and someone else.

Lets face it, our parents didn't like what we wore, we don't like what our kids wear and so on.  If the essentials are covered, they can be as uncomfortable as they want to be, doesn't impact me one way or another.
