From County EMD
« on: August 02, 2014, 02:09:22 PM »
City of Monroe Water Department and Frenchtown Water Department are assisting residents in Monroe County impacted by the water emergency by distributing potable water. They have established water filling stations to allow residents to obtain potable water at the following locations:

Ida Township Hall
3016 Lewis Ave
Ida, MI 48140

Manufacturer's Market Place/Hardwood Plaza (North of McDonald's)
14930 LaPlaisance Road
Monroe, MI 48161

Frenchtown Water Plant
5300 North Dixie Hwy
Monroe, MI 48162

Residents must bring their own containers to  fill. Prior to use, residents are encouraged to boil the water if the containers are not considered potable.

Behind Bedford Township Hall we have received a tanker of non drinkable water for uses such as washing. It can be boiled.

Bottled water will be available via the County Emergency Department. As soon as we have the water here I will post it here, the Township website, the cable channel and on various Facebook pages.

How many people think it would be smart to partner up with Monroe for our water and dump Toledo?
Monroe's facility would probably need to be upgraded.
Bedford residents should pay an additional tax on a bond to make that happen.
I just don't think it's smart to depend on Toledo for anything in the future.
It's going to get worse before it gets better.
Can one say Detroit?

We are open at the Township Hall with plenty of "boil first" potable water. We are getting another tanker with fresh drinking water in an hour or so, and although we are running low on bottled water we are making another run to Monroe.
 I'll keep you informed. Greg

A thanks to Bennett's Orchard in Ottawa Lake for the jugs. They and Erie Orchard have come through for us, but we still need more containers. If you have any ideas let me know and I will follow up.

We now have two tankers of potable water, and hopefully by 2:00 PM we should have another truckload of bottled water.

We are closing at six tonight, these volunteers need family time, and we must plan for the long haul.

Containers, Containers, Containers... If you got em, bring em.

Bob Clark, Mayor of Monroe stopped by to offer assistance.
The City of Monroe Water Station on LaPlaisance Road (west off I75 ext 11, past the McDonalds) can fill any containers with drinking water.

Also Giuseppo's Pizza at 14731 S. Telegraph Road and in downtown Ida at the entrance to the water Tower on Lewis Ave,

We are down to one and two gallon jugs, no individual bottles left.
We have plenty of potable water (drinkable) so once again we will be shutting down @ 6:00 PM Bring Containers!!!

Krogers had a few pallets of water setting out.  Of course you have to pay for it.

As many know the ban has been lifted. That's great but that's not the end of our job. Our meeting this morning went well. Bedford Schools, The Fire Department, South County Water, The County and the Township all met to review this weekend, and to plan next steps that need to be taken were addressed. Future incidents like what occurred are also being discussed. We are meeting again this afternoon with updated information.
Please share as much as possible to spread the word.

Thanks, Greg

Greg we should also recognize and thank many others as well.  From our county commissioners, county and city of Monroe officials and the BIG help from the Village of Dundee Police Department (Chief Dave Uhl) by providing their resources of the water tank truck, etc. to south county residents.

Slyvania shut off the flow of water from Toledo and relied on the water in their 3 water towers.
Any reason Bedford didn't' do the same?

Because the tests on water take a minimum of 5-6 hours to complete, shutting off the water would not have been that effective as contaminated water would have already been in our tank.  We'd have then had to test the water in OUR water tank, that would have taken additional time.
